Mike Scown
Mike Scown is a ceramic artist who primarily works with clay, often opting for an iron-rich stoneware. Specializing in tableware, he employs a technique of throwing on the wheel followed by gas-firing to enhance the clay's rich earth tones and speckled texture. Utilizing a feldspar crackle glaze, Mike achieves a serene, water-like quality in his pieces. His forms are characterized by simplicity and naturalism, allowing the unique qualities imparted by the kiln's heat upon the ceramic surface to subtly communicate their presence.
