Janet Barnes
Janet Barnes specializes in making vessels and domestic sculptures in stoneware using a variety of techniques such as coiling, slab, and pinching. She is particularly interested at the moment in trying to get some sense of depth into the surface as well as creating strong forms. Janet prefers a limited palette using oxides and colored slips. She wants to make intriguing and visually satisfying objects. Janet came to working with clay after a career in public museums and art galleries. The collection at York Art Gallery has especially inspired her work.
